Voters approve 2011-12 budget
Ilion voters went to polls on Tuesday, May 17 and approved the proposed 2011-12 school budget. The $26,499,977 budget carries a 2.31 percent increase in spending and a 4.56 percent increase in the tax levy. (view a PDF of the budget information)
The final count was:
Yes—320
No—96
Voters also re-elected Bonnie Coffin with 361 votes to a five-year term on the Board of Education.
"This was an extremely difficult year to build a budget. The loss of $1.15 million in state aid coupled with rising costs left a huge hole to fill," said Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra, Jr.
"The Board of Education decided to use $2.73 million of the district's savings in an effort to keep our academic and extracurricular programs and to avoid asking for a significantly larger tax increase."
