The Ilion Foundation will hold its 5K Run & Walk
9 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Ilion Junior-Senior High School. The
race
is sponsored by Remington Arms. Proceeds from the event will benefit
the foundation’s Nurses’ Fund.
Race director Scott Grates promises a great event
for runners of all
abilities. At press time, he and village officials were working to lay
out a challenging course that will have a minimal impact on local
traffic.
In addition to Remington Arms, the foundation
thanks other major
sponsors; First Source Federal Credit Union for providing T-shirts and
racing bibs and Fidelis Care for donating goodie bags and water
bottles.
Activities during the event will include door prize drawings for participants, child fingerprinting by the Herkimer County Sheriff’s Office and a DJ and music at the start/finish line. Spectators are encouraged along the route to cheer on the runners. Ilion Junior-Senior High Student Council and Key Club members will staff water stations and help with course directions.
Thanks to the Boilermaker and other regional races,
the area is filled
with strong runners. Mr. Grates hopes to build on that foundation to
create a new, local tradition.
