Dr.
Marsha Mays-Smith has worked for the Ilion Central School District
since 2002 and currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent of
Curriculum, Planning and Technology. She holds permanent certification
as a School District Administrator, elementary teacher and K-12 grade
special education teacher.
Prior to working at Ilion, Dr. Mays-Smith served as the Dean of Students for the Oneida County BOCES Career and Technical Education Center and taught special education classes at both Oneida and Herkimer BOCES. Before working in public education Dr. Mays-Smith worked primarily as a computer programmer and information analyst in healthcare and social service settings.
Dr. Mays-Smith has earned three graduate degrees that include a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership, Management and Policy from Seton Hall University, a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY Cortland, and a Master's in Special Education from the College of Saint Rose. She also earned both a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the State University of New York Institute of Technology. Dr. Mays-Smith is currently attending a school leadership program at SUNY Oswego.
Dr. Mays-Smith has been recognized as the 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient for the College of Saint Rose. She has also been recognized by the Mohawk Regional Information Center as the administrative recipient of their Technology Leadership award for her region. The Herkimer BOCES recently recognized Dr. Mays-Smith with an Ambassador Award for her role as a Key Communicator for their approved building project.
Dr. Mays-Smith has also served as adjunct faculty for several area graduate schools including Utica College's Institute of Educational Excellence, the College of Saint Rose, and was recently recruited to teach for SUNY Cortland's Educational Leadership program (Fall 2010) . She has also taught undergraduate courses at SUNY Oneonta and has guest lectured in Utica College's Educational Leadership and Administration program on topics related to teacher evaluation and technology integration for administrators.
