What is the greatest opportunity presented by the merger?
What would you suggest the board of education do if the districts choose not to merge?
Students
More courses at secondary and elementary levels
More languages offered in earlier grades
Business courses
More diverse extracurricular offerings
Pooling resources for special needs students
“Tracking” at the high school level, so students can choose between academic paths and technical/vocational paths
Greater student diversity/larger social circles
Greater competition – students will have to work harder to be a part or to be the best; competition is contagious
Brighter future for all students
Grade specific schools enable program to target grade levels
Preserve existing programs from kindergarten to athletics
Possibly two campuses so students can stay here rather than going to BOCES
Staffing
More staff to raise test scores
More diverse teacher and staff population that could promote mentoring and improved teaching techniques
Stronger/more effective professional development (ongoing training)
Utilize staff more efficiently
Attracting a broader pool of talented job applicants
Finances
Additional revenue
Stabilized taxes
Greater efficiency/save money
Better job stability
More control over our own future (not waiting for state to force us into something)
A slim hope that a merger will help with finances
Athletics
Greater competition/stronger sports teams
More sports—different levels/different sports
Ability to attract college scouts for athletes
Community
Community growth – a successful school will attract people and business to our communities
