Frankfort-Schuyler rejects plan
Residents in three of the four school districts
approved the proposed four-school merger on Thursday, Jan. 19.

With Frankfort-Schuyler's rejection of the advisory
referendum, the process ends. The superintendents and boards of education
of Ilion, Mohawk and Herkimer may now explore other options
including a possible merger of their three districts.
District superintendents will meet on Friday, Jan.
20 to interpret the outcome of the vote and to plan their next steps.
"I have two goals—one short-term and one
long-term," said Ilion superintendent Cosimo Tangorra, Jr.
"First, I will buckle down to create a solid
budget that keeps the needs of students and taxpayers in balance. We
cannot lose our focus—we are here to educate our communities children."
"In the long-term, I will begin looking at all of
the options available to us to provide our valley's students with the
greatest educational opportunities."
