Ilion, Mohawk & Herkimer voters approve first  merger referendum

Herkimer, Ilion and Mohawk residents approved the proposed three-school merger advisory referendum on Wednesday, Sept. 12. Following are the results by district:

What's next?

With voter approval of the advisory referendum, the merger process moves on to a second vote—the statutory referendum or "binding vote" on Thursday, Oct. 18.

Residents will again be asked if the three districts should merge into a single district. They will also vote on two other questions:

If the merger proposal is approved by all three districts:

  1. Should the new board of education be made up of five, seven, or nine member?

  2. Should board members serve three, four, or five year terms?
