Driving to school? Hit the brakes!
School zone—speed limit 15 mph
Parents, students, faculty and staff are reminded that Frederick St. and Golden Bomber Dr. are both in a school zone with a speed limit of 15 mph.
Without a stop sign slowing traffic crossing Steele Creek, drivers are travelling too fast, creating close calls for students, school staff and area residents.
Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra said that the new bridge on Frederick St. removed some of the natural obstacles that helped slow drivers on their way to school.
"As a result, people coming off Otsego St. are not paying attention to the speed limit, local traffic, or the children on sidewalks and crossing the street," he said.
"We recently had several reports from neighbors and staff of speeders nearly causing accidents or narrowly missing children. This needs to stop immediately before something tragic happens."
