Hi—I am Remington Elementary nurse, Barbara Lennox!
An eight year veteran of Ilion Central School District, Mrs. Lennox currently
is a nurse at Remington Elementary.
What do you like best about what you do?
I love that I can help people when they need it, I have never regretted my decision to be a nurse.
What event here at Ilion CSD has made/makes a difference to you personally and in your career?
I had a conversation with a student and he was telling me his family never sits down to a dinner together. I told him he could come have lunch with me in my office anytime he wanted. The office staff helped me find a table and very quickly I had to have a sign up sheet because so many students wanted to come in for lunch.
Where are you involved outside of school and what do you like best about it?
I have been on the Citizens Advisory Committee for the merger since it's beginning. I have been proud to be a part of creating a program and district that will give our students more opportunities. I also am on the foundation for the Ilion Free Library. I have only just gotten on this, but so far I find it to be a worthy program to be involved in.
What former jobs have you held?
I have worked in several places over my 38 years as a nurse. My most fun area was in the nursery at Mohawk Valley General Hospital. It was generally a happy place to be. At the other end of the spectrum I worked for Herkimer County Hospice, probably my most favorite area. It was extremely rewarding and challenging, you are not only taking care of someone at the end of their life, but you are also helping the family through one of the most difficult events they will encounter.
Where were you educated?
Mohawk Central Schools, Herkimer County BOCES for their LPN program and then received my RN through Excelsior College.
Where have you lived?
I grew up in Mohawk, I moved to Herkimer when I married and raised my family there. Then 14 years ago I moved to Ilion and have lived here since.
If you could do anything on a weekend, what would you do?
Winter months I go to my sewing room. In nice weather I love to be outside doing anything I can, swimming is #1, gardening, walking, or reading on the porch.
What book and/or author are you currently reading?
The Island by Elin Hilderbrand. She is an american writer of summer beach romance novels. She lives on Nantucket so all of her books are set on Nantucket of Martha's Vineyard.
If we were to listen to your iPod or sound system, what would be playing?
Mostly oldies, 60's, I like One Direction, Train, and country music too.
What is your favorite television show/movie/actor?
All time favorite movie is Rudy. It is a story of a student who wants to go to Notre Dame and play football. I could be flipping channels and come across it, watch a few minutes and I will start crying. It is such an awesome movie of personal drive and making your dream come true.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Ireland. I have relatives there and I would love to spend a few months there to get to know my cousins and the country better.
What is something you would share that people might not know about you?
I'm very shy.
