The Herkimer County Music Educator’s Association (HCMEA) sponsored the first of two annual All-County Festivals to be held this year on November 4 & 5 at Poland Central School District. The festival involves hundreds of the finest student musicians selected from the participating school’s music programs of Frankfort, Ilion, Mohawk, Herkimer, Little Falls, West Canada Valley, Poland, Dolgeville, Richfield Springs, Mount Markham, and Owen D. Young. Each level of the All-County organization differs slightly in procedure. However, each level shares common goals and purposes.
All-County Festivals are important educational and musical experiences for the students of Ilion. These festivals provide students with the opportunity to rehearse and perform under the direction of a guest conductor, while also meeting and interacting with students from other school districts. These types of experiences have proven to be extremely valuable to all involved.
Participating students were selected for All-County I in early September and had about 4-5 weeks to learn the music. The ensembles that make up All-County I are Elementary Chorus, Junior High Band, and Senior High Chorus.
Students will be selected for All-County II in January and the ensembles for that festival will include a High School Band, Elementary Band, and Junior High Chorus. All-County II is hosted by Ilion and is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 16 & 17.
Pictured in the photo below are Jr. High band students that participated in the festival, from left to right are; Heylee Dooley, Jordan Thomes, Melinda Holmes, Taylor Lindig, Nolan Callaghan, Mason Geno, and Aaron Barnett.
