Ilion High School Student Council is calling on fellow students to support Schoharie County families who lives were devastated by the flooding in the wake of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.
The widespread loss of homes and possessions prompted Mohawk High School graduate and current SUNY Cobleskill student Brittany Cook to reach out to her local community and organize a flood relief drive.
"I heard her speak at church," said Ilion physical education teacher and student council advisor Tara Raux.
"Student Council is trying to do one major activity each month and we didn't have anything for September so this just seemed to fit."
She and fellow advisor Mr. Keeler took the idea to the council who wholeheartedly backed the idea.
For one week only, Student Council will coordinate the collection of needed supplies that will be delivered to distribution sites in Schoharie County.
Students are asked to bring in any item(s) listed below and to drop them off with Mrs. Raux in the hallway by the guidance office as students proceed to homeroom! Collections end Friday, Sept. 23.
