A record number of runners participated in the EyeLoveCecelia/Mott Marathon Challenge held on June 6 at the Ilion Jr.-Sr. High School track. The event started seven years ago when English teacher James Mott challenged a student to run a marathon and finish. [full story] [Photo video]
The fitness center and indoor track at Ilion Jr.-Sr. High are closed for the school year. The outdoor track is closed due to safety concerns with construction in the area. Visit the Central Valley Website for more information when the facilities will reopen to the public.
At the end of the school year, any money remaining in a student's cafeteria account will automatically roll over to that student's WINSNAP cafeteria account for September 2013. Any student who currently has a PIN number will keep that same number next year. Any student without a PIN will receive a number and instructions by mail over the summer. Under state law, any unpaid cafeteria charges must be paid in full by the June 7.
The 2013 Ilion Jr.-Sr. High School yearbook has arrived. Payment in full is due immediately for pre-ordered yearbooks. Additional copies are available to purchase for $60 from Mr. Laurion in room 2505.
The Ilion Yearbook Committee is holding a Krispy Kreme Donut fundraiser. Place your order with Mr. Laurion or any of the yearbook staff through June 7. The cost is $8.00 per dozen and is due at the time of order. Donuts are made fresh delivery day and will be available for pick up on Monday, June 10 from 2:30-6:30 pm. Extras will be sold delivery day by the dozen or individually for $1.00.
Ilion Central School will play host to the 21st Hershey's Track and Field games on Saturday, June 1. Children ages 9-14 can participate in a variety of events and winners will compete in the New York State West Finals. [full story]
In addition to classroom review for Regents exams, senior high teachers are holding classes after school to help prepare students for the June exams. Students are encouraged to attend any or all of the sessions. Anyone wishing to improve their grade or that need to repeat a Regents exam can also attend. [More info and schedules]
30 Ilion seniors learn what it is like first hand to run a village when they participated in Youth In Government Day. Students toured the village and shadowed village employees, followed by a mock village board meeting. [full story]
Ilion students took community service to the next step—giving time and blood at the Ilion Class of 2013 Spring Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, May 9. [full story and photos]
Eight seniors completed internships at area businesses and organizations through the Regional Program for Excellence in April. The program gave them a first look into their future career path for college. [full story]
Ninth grade students in Mrs. Dunn-Jones' art class displayed their original shoe designs at the Herkimer County Art Month Show. There was no end to the creativity in their final designs. [full story]
