On
Monday, November 21, first and second grade
students at Remington Elementary came dressed in their pajamas and
slippers ready to celebrate our annual B.E.A.R. (Be Enthusiastic About
Reading) Breakfast.
The children have been waiting all month for this celebration of literature. This year our literary event centered on the works of Eric Carle. Each class learned about the author and rotated from room to room as each teacher read a different book by Carle. Throughout the morning, students were able to experience several stories written by this wonderful children's author. Reinforcing the stories they heard, students completed follow-up projects that went along with each book.
Listening to all those stories made everyone "Very Hungry Catapillars" but they were able to feast on mountains of breakfast treats generously supplied by parents. As the students feasted, several guest readers shared favorite stories with them.
To wrap up the the festive day, students did a project based on Eric Carle's illustration style creating paper and collaged posters which are displayed in the hallways! B.E.A.R. Breakfast has become a much anticipated tradition at Remington Elementary and was a fun day for all! Many thanks goes out to the voluteers who came to read books to the students and who sent in items for the breakfast feast.
