Ilion Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra, Jr. and the superintendents of the Frankfort-Schuyler, Herkimer, and Mohawk school districts appeared on a special WKTV news segment on Tuesday, Jan. 17 to answer questions related to the merger. [watch the segment]
At special meetings, the Ilion, Herkimer, Mohawk and Frankfort-Schuyler boards of education each passed resolutions to move the proposed merger to a public advisory referendum (straw vote) on Jan. 19. Ilion Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra, Jr. encourages residents visit the school website or to call him personally to learn about the many opportunities and challenges a merger would bring.
Despite earlier reports, all four districts must approve the proposed merger at the board of education votes, the advisory referendum and the statutory referendum. [Read the details]
About 40 people turned out on Thursday, Jan. 5 for the district's final community merger discussion. Unlike previous meetings, Superintendent Cosimo Tangorra spent the evening taking questions from the audience. [Click here for a copy of the application.] Applications for absentee ballots for the Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012 Merger Advisory Referendum are available from the District Clerk Ken Long at 894-9934 or can be downloaded from the district website www.ilioncsd.org. Completed applications must be received by Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter or Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012 if the ballot is to be issued to the voter in person. Absentee ballots must be received in the office of the District Clerk by 5 p.m., Jan. 19, 2012.
